I can’t fly on a plane or listen to music I love or see a crystal or set up a campsite or dabble in 3D rendering without thinking of you. Every boy in pink echos your existence. I wonder who you would have become. Why you gravitated to the handful of us who toed and later stepped over genderqueer lines and what that may have looked like for you today. How the military may have changed you. Whether you’d still do art and design. Whether life after graduation have been just as confusing and chaotic for you as it was for all of us. I once chose returning to an abuser over you and still wish I’d never brought that pain to you. I can’t change the past, but I’ve learned to only let in those who are sweet and supportive, like you were. Trauma bonds are grounds for stupid decisions, but I’m sure you already knew that. I’ve learned to live softer and gentler with myself. Chase happiness and that dream life like any day could be my last day. I thought I was doing that after your passing, but it actually took me years to pull myself out of so many self-destructive behaviors brought on by depression, guilt, and shame. You’ve been a memory for longer than you were ever alive, which feels weird… and sad… but in a bittersweet kind of way. You made such an impact on us all. Your half-smirk, your curiosity about the world, your love of music and nature and educating, your kindness and creativity. You were the diamond the whole time. When you left, a fractal of shards broke off into so many of our hearts to shine eternally. We miss you, Bubba. 💞💎🌹 8️⃣3️⃣1️⃣$

Happy Labor Day!! 🇺🇸 It was a beautiful (HOT 🥵) weekend out at @paintlouisofficial 2023 putting up this tugboat frawg piece, dedicated to my pup. This character is based on the Missouri-native northern crawfish frog. Like Pup when I was growing up in New Orleans, this frog is a tugboat maintenance engineer, making sure the two-spotted bumblebee’s canal fleet is operating at its finest! Felt appropriate to highlight the hard working folks who are integral to keeping our supply chains running for this big Labor Day event. It was so amazing hearing all the people passing by who resonated with my piece!!

It was fun getting to put up all my @ftkatx krewmates’ throwies and get some practice with different letterstyles. And Lil Phathead was always there to make me feel a little less alone on my adventures.

I’ve already learned a bunch and we’re only like half was through the day. More videos to come! Send me those good vibes that the all-terrain scissor lift with outriggers is going to work because my spot is one of the few INCREDIBLY unlevel gravel bed spots. It’s going to add some sick texture to the crashing through the wall look of the piece, but I am currently without height because they had to run the other lift back. 😂

Past month’s hyperfixation station. In very me style, I’ve been doing too much prepping for @paintlouisofficial. Thursday, I take my first flight in 5 years to go up and be a part of this massive graffiti event, painting a concept I’ve worked really hard on and am super happy with on the longest mural wall in the world! I can’t believe it’s already here, but my hand is FULLY TRAINED.

“Rediscovering your Light” 💜🦋 quick lil

“Rediscovering your Light” 💜🦋 quick lil Draenei jammer for Bodies of Work Vol. III (hosted by @leah.creative and @textualseduction) at @richesartgallery where I live painted with @ftkatx sis @l.rhae and our buddy @inkcolor. Since FTK’s mission is centered on raising awareness of domestic violence (especially in and around graff culture), we all created pieces that spoke to that theme in our own individual ways.
.
As a multi-time survivor of sexual assault, coercion, and relationship violence from the age of 13 through my mid-20s, I spent most of my life fluctuating between feelings of numbness, agoraphobia, and extreme anger. It wasn’t until I was older and created a safe environment where I was able to unpack, rediscover happiness, nurture my light, and heal my inner child. Much DV survivor symbolism includes purple hearts and blue butterflies, which was my initial inspiration for this piece. As I often get experimental with my live paintings, I felt pulled to bring a beautiful fantasy character to life, and who better than the systemically-abused, blue and purple, tentacled goat-people, the Draenei. In @warcraft lore, these people were driven from their home planets multiple times by corrupted ancestors and orcish invaders looking to use and abuse their power and their light. (Side note: I was actually a hordie and played a goblin and troll character, but there’s no denying that the alliance side has some of the prettier character designs.)
.
Abuse has the ability to transform you into a demonic and beastly version of yourself. You become your own worst enemy trying to protect yourself by shutting everyone out, and, even worse, repeating those cycles, perpetuating the pain that was passed onto you. Only through creating safe harbor for yourself and working through the shadow to rediscover your light and protect it are you able to truly move past the hold that abuse has on you. Or at least that was my experience… anyways kind of brainy for a nerdy lil fan art, but it is what it is. 🤣 Thanks again to Leah and Loria for having us out to paint!!

Frawgs Far and Wide is a street art project where I’m creating murals of froggy characters in different cities, representing a local native frog or toad species, celebrating cultural or creative activities tied to the area. I’ve already put a few up in Austin, Dallas, Brenham, and New Orleans. The mission is to raise awareness of indigenous plants and wildlife, while also promoting preservation and admiration of wetlands and other amphibious habitats through my cute and fun characters.

Out in the heat from 10:50am-7pm. I got a little nauseous and almost had to bail out near the end. Thankfully, there was a room with fans where I was able to cool down, decided to switch to a cloth mask, and powered through to finish in one day. My will to have a “do nothing and don’t leave the house” Sunday prevails over all. This was technically 4.7 hours of paint time on a 10’x10’, but I had to take multiple extended breaks in between from the heat.

“For the Kause” @ftkatx mural production at the @native.experience.atx off 4th St, which we completed in late May! Everyone worked so hard on this and it came together so beautifully. I hope whomever takes over the space appreciates it.

I have too much to say about this whole thing, but I’ll start by saying a little about my portrait. Lately, I’ve had a lot of reasons to be grateful for my mum so I painted a picture of her, a remake of my @krystallinekaleidoscope Empress tarot card. Most importantly as a thank you for trading her lovely car that a ladder will actually fit in for my possessed clown car that locks itself… and all the other hundreds of thousands of things she does and has done.

I’ll also say I’m glad I revisited this piece. Many of you have asked about it and I hope the 8th pic makes it clear why I had to pause the @krystallinekaleidoscope tarot series. My style and skills are still in constant evolution, but I keep incredibly thorough notes and reference files. It’s not dropped forever, but it’s currently simmering until I have financial and temporal alignment to produce it the way it needs to be.

Pride Month CutieToonz jammer honoring the og pride mother Marsha “Pay It No Mind” Johnson at the Down ‘n Dirty Street Art Experience, hosted by @textualseduction @tvheadatx and @jsladek1 last night at @theyardaustin !! SUCH A FUN EVENT WITH SO MANY PEOPLE TO HUG AND SAY HI TOO. The vibes were so great. 🥰

For a lil history: The first pride was a riot that broke out on June 28, 1969 after p*lice violence during a raid of the Stonewall Inn, a gay bar in Greenwich Village, NY. Marsha P. Johnson was a Black activist, drag queen, and street performer, who is often credited with “throwing the first brick,” which she denied, saying the riots were already underway when she arrived. There are tales from the second day that ring slightly true with this reputation. This multi-day uprising became the catalyst for the still-running fight for LGBTQIA+ equality and justice. A march was held to commemorate these events a year later.

Marsha was a significant force in the community and movement, advocating for those living with AIDS, founding the Gay Liberation Front, and co-founding S.T.A.R. with pal Sylvia Riviera. Throughout her life, she fought tirelessly for LGBTQIA+ rights and equality until her untimely death in 1992, when her body was found floating in the Hudson River.
.
I felt it appropriate to honor this queen for pride month and for this event because drag and street performance has always been a part of street art. With bills currently in Texas legislature looking to criminalize gender affirming care and education, it is important to pay homage to the revolutionaries who paved the way towards equality. Stay vigilant and do your part to vote and write your Congress people urging them to stop discriminatory legislation.

Big ups to @l.rhae for helping with design feedback and to both her and @universalstyleschool for on-site critiques on my lettering piece! It was a first of I’m sure many to come writing Frawg. @raytrillharvey and @kryslachapis did an amazing job running the event. @sage_medicine brought out some amazing tunes and @nikita.theartist gave me wonderful henna.

My piece was a celebration of thick, soft bodies resting in confidence. 🚨 TW: diet culture & DE 🚨 I keep feeling the push of early 2000s trend setting coming to the cultural forefront (media, ads, conversationally), clawing to undo all the strides made by the body positivity movement over the past several years. As someone who suffered from disordered eating throughout middle and high school, and even a bit into college, (mostly from lack of information, general trauma, and encouragement to follow unhealthy and super unsustainable diet trends) it’s been a very long journey for me to get to a space where I can appreciate my body. And damn do I have a lot to appreciate it for after this past month. I spent about 12 consecutive days (plus a 4 others) climbing a 12-15ft ladder (depending on how extended I had it) in the Texas sun. My arms are able to create art on a larger scale than I ever could have imagined, but we’ll go even bigger. I went straight from this event into a GIGANTIC production with the @ftkatx crew! More on that very soon (trust I have the reel ready in the drafts)…

@sheunitpaintjam rainy final day 3! Still got my piece settled enough to leave it… for now. First time doing a graffiti lettering piece! New character design! You can’t tell from this photo but that fae frog is about the same height as me.

This weekend was beautiful. I had 100 things to say on the ride home but am now so tired and will have to say them later… I met so many wonderful people. Loved painting the @the500x gallery wall along side:

Awesome seeing my aunt @imalleyes and uncle and cousin @ben_leary1997 out today at the jam because alignment was such that we were all in Dallas at the same time. Today was full of amazing jams and dancing with friends and seeing phenomenal art come to life as hours passed and butterfly-licked henna. Thank you to everyone who bought some of my merch today!! It helps me re-coup some costs for doing something that brings me so much happiness. I wish I could bottle this feeling for a rainy day.
