Martian Arts Festival 2023 took place over September 21-23 at Southern Star Farms & Events and I was hired to paint this “Space Lion Beckons” mural on a panel wall.
This piece was inspired by the Martian theme of the event. The desolate landscape this ethereal space lion lounges upon was inspired by a reference photo taken by NASA’s Mars Rover with the Cat’s Eye Nebula exploding in the skies overhead.
This 12’x8′ piece was completed entirely in aerosol paints in front of a live audience throughout the three days of the event. As I was working on it, festival-goers would ask to take a picture in front of it as it made a cool photo wall.
It was a lot of fun with a lot of amazing musical acts. Lazy Syrup Orchestra came in from Vancouver and were the openers for this video. I also had the pleasure of seeing Golden Dawn Arkestra and Wy’s Big Brass Band.
The other live art pieces shown at the end of the video were completed by Everyday Research and Ost3n!
