After the passing of her baby boy Theo the Pirate Pom, Sara turned to me to capture his smile and signature wink into a tattoo design for her.
Throughout the concept process, I worked from several photos to get the image just right. We went through several rounds of revisions to capture the perfect memory of his face, hair, and sweet smile. We also explored some different framing options for the tattoo, which you can see in the sketchbook photos below.
The final version of this 4″x4″ pet portrait took 2.75 hours, plus a 4-hour concept process exploring the different designs. It was drawn with Copic markers, Micron fineliners, and Gelly Roll pens on Strathmore smooth bristol paper. The final artwork was tattooed, with expert precision, onto her arm by Thom Rein at Dovetail Tattoo East.
