When Dy Roshun was working on her debut EP, she knew she wanted an illustration to set the tone for her upcoming dark pop release. She came to me looking for a character concept, inspired by Sailor Moon, SZA, and the stylings of an Urban Shaman portrait taken by mutual friend and artist, Ashtyn Nyx.
I drew from her afropunk aesthetic to transform her into a powerful being, with her signature locks levitating around her head forming a heart shape. Since her lyrical content deals heavily with mental health struggles, I decided to make her markings illuminated, showing light coming through the darkness of depression.
